The graduate reading program is designed for candidates who possess an initial teaching license and want to expand their knowledge base, skills and dispositions for teaching literacy. The reading specialist is a highly skilled professional prepared to offer expert instruction, targeted assessment, and leadership in working with colleagues. At TCNJ, candidates complete advanced level course work related to the teaching of reading and writing, educational research, diagnosis and remediation of reading problems, and supervising reading programs among other topics. Additionally, candidates complete several practicums during which they engage in assessment and provide instruction to students in K-12 settings. We offer two program options:
- the M.Ed in Reading that leads to both a Masters Degree and Reading Specialist Certification;
- and the Post-Masters Reading Specialist Certificate Program which is designed for students who already have a Masters Degree in another field.
